Fans now ask AI chatbots for everything from last night’s box score to who to start in fantasy football. The answers range from sharp analysis to stats that are weeks out of date. To find out which AI is best for sports analysis, our research team ran a head-to-head study from September 29 to October 16, 2026.
We gave the same 480 sports questions to seven AI platforms, producing 3,360 answers. The questions covered eight tasks, with 60 questions each, across the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, college football and the Premier League. A panel of four sports journalists and two sports data analysts scored each answer from 0 to 100 without knowing which platform wrote it. We also checked 9,840 individual stats against official league data, and graded every platform’s picks for 186 games played during the study.
Summary of Findings
- Google Gemini is the best AI for sports analysis overall, scoring 88.7 out of 100 with Gemini 4 Argon, followed by ChatGPT at 88.4 and Grok at 86.3.
- Gemini and ChatGPT each won three of the eight tasks we tested. Grok won injury and roster news (91.7) and Claude won tactics and strategy (90.6).
- Gemini gave the most accurate stats: 94.2% were correct and up to date, compared with 61.3% for DeepSeek.
- No AI beat the betting favorite at picking winners. Gemini picked 64.5% of 186 games correctly, while always picking the favorite was right 66.1% of the time.
Best AI for Sports Analysis Overall
Each platform was tested on its best available model with web search turned on. A platform’s overall score is the average of its scores across the eight tasks in our study, with each task weighted equally. In the table below, we rank the seven platforms from highest to lowest.
Sports Analysis Scores by AI Platform (September to October 2026)
| Rank | AI Platform | Model Tested | Overall Score | Strongest Task |
| 1 | Google Gemini | Gemini 4 Argon | 88.7 | Live Scores and Stats |
| 2 | ChatGPT | GPT-6 Sol | 88.4 | Live Scores and Stats |
| 3 | Grok | Grok 4.6 | 86.3 | Injury and Roster News |
| 4 | Claude | Claude Opus 5.5 | 85.4 | Tactics and Strategy |
| 5 | Microsoft Copilot | GPT-6 Astra | 83.2 | Live Scores and Stats |
| 6 | Meta AI | Muse Spark | 79.6 | Live Scores and Stats |
| 7 | DeepSeek | DeepSeek V4-Pro | 76.6 | Historical Stats and Records |

Our researchers took three main points from this data:
- We found that Google Gemini’s lead comes from Google’s live sports data, the same scores, standings and schedules shown in Google Search. It finished first or second in five of the eight tasks.
- ChatGPT finished 0.3 points behind Gemini and gave the strongest written analysis, winning player and team analysis (89.2) and fantasy sports advice (88.9).
- Grok ranked third overall. Its access to posts on X made it the fastest platform to report injuries and lineup changes, and its weakest task was historical stats and records (82.6).
Best AI for Each Sports Task
We split the questions evenly across eight tasks, with 60 questions per task. The best platform changed from one task to the next. The first table below shows the winner and runner-up for each task. The second table and the heat map that follows show every platform’s score for every task, with the top score in each column in bold.
Best AI Platform for Each Sports Task (September to October 2026)
| Task | Best Platform | Score | Runner-Up | Score |
| Live Scores and Stats | Google Gemini | 93.4 | Grok | 90.6 |
| Player and Team Analysis | ChatGPT | 89.2 | Claude | 88.6 |
| Game Previews | Google Gemini | 88.6 | ChatGPT | 88.4 |

| Betting Odds Explained | ChatGPT | 88.7 | Claude | 87.4 |
| Injury and Roster News | Grok | 91.7 | Google Gemini | 89.3 |
| Historical Stats and Records | Google Gemini | 88.4 | ChatGPT | 87.9 |
| Tactics and Strategy | Claude | 90.6 | ChatGPT | 88.4 |
Sports Analysis Scores by Task and AI Platform (September to October 2026)
| AI Platform | Live Scores | Player Analysis | Previews | Fantasy | Odds Explained | Injuries | History | Tactics |
| Google Gemini | 93.4 | 88.1 | 88.6 | 87.2 | 86.9 | 89.3 | 88.4 | 87.9 |
| ChatGPT | 89.8 | 89.2 | 88.4 | 88.9 | 88.7 | 85.6 | 87.9 | 88.4 |
| Grok | 90.6 | 85.3 | 86.2 | 85.8 | 84.1 | 91.7 | 82.6 | 84.4 |
| Claude | 81.2 | 88.6 | 85.9 | 84.3 | 87.4 | 80.1 | 85.2 | 90.6 |
| Microsoft Copilot | 86.9 | 82.4 | 82.1 | 81.6 | 83.2 | 84.7 | 83.9 | 80.8 |
| Meta AI | 84.1 | 78.9 | 79.6 | 80.4 | 76.8 | 83.2 | 77.4 | 76.2 |
| DeepSeek | 68.4 | 81.3 | 78.2 | 76.9 | 79.4 | 66.2 | 82.1 | 80.4 |

Here is what our team took from the task-level results:
- We found that injury and roster news produced the widest gap of any task, 25.5 points between Grok (91.7) and DeepSeek (66.2). Platforms without live news often reported players as healthy after they had been ruled out.
- Claude won tactics and strategy (90.6), with clear breakdowns of play calls, formations and pitching plans, but scored 81.2 on live scores and stats, its weakest task.
- ChatGPT won betting odds explained (88.7). Judges rewarded its plain explanations of spreads, moneylines and implied odds, and it reminded users of the risks of gambling more often than any other platform.
Stats Accuracy and Prediction Accuracy
Sports answers are only useful if the numbers are right. We checked 9,840 individual stats from the platforms’ answers, such as a quarterback’s passing yards or a team’s record, against official league data. We sorted each stat as correct and current, correct but out of date, or wrong. We also asked every platform to pick the winner of the same 186 games played during the study and graded the picks after the final whistle.
Stats Accuracy and Game Picks by AI Platform (September to October 2026)
| AI Platform | Stats Correct and Current | Stats Correct but Out of Date | Stats Wrong | Game Picks Correct |
| Google Gemini | 94.2% | 3.1% | 2.7% | 64.5% |
| Grok | 91.6% | 4.3% | 4.1% | 62.9% |
| ChatGPT | 89.7% | 5.8% | 4.5% | 63.4% |
| Microsoft Copilot | 87.3% | 6.9% | 5.8% | 60.2% |
| Claude | 82.4% | 10.7% | 6.9% | 61.3% |
| Meta AI | 80.6% | 9.8% | 9.6% | 57.0% |
| DeepSeek | 61.3% | 27.4% | 11.3% | 55.4% |

Our researchers drew three conclusions from the accuracy data:
- We found that Google Gemini gave the most accurate stats, with 94.2% correct and current, followed by Grok at 91.6%.
- DeepSeek’s most common problem was old data. More than a quarter of its stats (27.4%) were correct for an earlier point in the season but out of date, often by several weeks.
- Every platform picked between 55.4% and 64.5% of games correctly. Always picking the betting favorite was right 66.1% of the time, so no AI in our study is a reliable way to predict results.
Best AI for Each League
Fans of different sports get different results. The table below shows each platform’s average score for the questions about each league, with the top score in each column in bold.
Sports Analysis Scores by League and AI Platform (September to October 2026)

| DeepSeek | 77.3 | 76.8 | 76.9 | 74.2 | 72.6 | 79.8 |
Here is what our team took from the league results:
- We found that Google Gemini scored highest for five of the six leagues. ChatGPT led the NBA (88.7).
- The NHL produced the lowest league score for every platform except DeepSeek, which struggled most with college football. Judges found more out-of-date rosters and stats for hockey than for any other sport.
- Claude scored 87.3 for the Premier League, its best league, where its tactical breakdowns of formations and pressing were a strength.
