From May 2025 through February 2026, our research team conducted a comprehensive study analyzing ChatGPT conversion rates across industries. We used anonymized client data drawn from 150+ client companies, analyzing what percentage of a client company’s referral traffic from ChatGPT went on to take a conversion action as defined by that client company. Most, but not all, of the companies in our dataset had some investment in generative engine optimization, and therefore had above industry-baseline referral traffic from ChatGPT, but had also invested in their ChatGPT-focused conversion funnels. The results of our study are presented below:

Key Findings
- Higher Intent Traffic: ChatGPT-influenced traffic consistently converts at higher rates than traditional SEO. This suggests that conversational AI pre-qualifies leads more effectively than keyword-based targeting, as users articulate detailed needs through natural language queries.
- Complexity Impact: Complex industries such as Commercial Insurance and Pharmaceuticals tend to have proportionally higher conversion rates than simpler industries such as eCommerce or Food & Beverage. Particularly high-trust or traditional industries such as Financial Services and Oil & Gas see the lowest improvements over traditional search, though ChatGPT conversion rates remain higher across all industries.
- B2B vs. B2C: Primarily B2C sector industries’ conversion rates tend to show less improvement compared to traditional SEO than industries with primarily B2B companies. This gap suggests ChatGPT’s conversational context particularly benefits complex B2B sales cycles.
